Program Details

  • We have a multidisciplinary, patient-centered approach to the management of benign and malignant disease.
  • Our surgeons, annually, treat more than 1,600 new breast cancer patients and have extensive exposure to benign breast processes.
  • We have an active high-risk program including a certified genetic counselor see over 600 new consults per year.
  • Our dedicated breast radiologists are experienced in all breast imaging modalities including Breast MRI and MRI guided biopsy.
  • Our program is actively involved in clinical trials as well as industry and investigator-initiated trials.
  • Our breast center physicians are actively involved with the ASBrS, SSO, ACoS, and clinical trials groups.

Rotations

West Cancer Center practices oncology from the multidisciplinary approach. The Breast Surgical Oncology Fellow participates in all aspects of surgical management. The one-year fellowship will focus on participation on the Breast Surgical Service with additional rotations to include Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Breast Imaging, Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology, Pathology, Risk Assessment and Genetics Counseling & Testing, Psychosocial Medicine, Lymphedema Physical Therapy, Community Outreach, and Research throughout the fellowship.

What sets the West Cancer Breast Surgical Oncology Fellowship apart? In addition to extensive clinical experience in benign and malignant breast disease, the special collaborative atmosphere between the breast surgeons and the breast imagers allows the fellow to have exposure to breast imaging, integrating hands-on breast ultrasound and image-guided biopsy into their patient evaluation, while on the breast imaging rotation as well as while on the breast surgery rotation.

There is a dedicated weekly tumor board that the fellow will attend and present current cases.  The fellow will have an opportunity for instructing rotating residents, fellows and advance practice providers.

Eligibility and Application

Completion of a fully accredited program in surgical residency, in the United States, prior to the start of the Breast Surgical Oncology Fellowship is required. You must be American Board of Surgery certified or eligible. Foreign applicants must meet all ACGME requirements. We accept the J-1 Visa only; please do not apply if you need an H1b Visa.
