Taiwan Breast Cancer Society

Taiwan Breast Cancer Society (TBCS) is a non-profit organization established in 1997 with a mission to enhance the quality of breast cancer care, advocate for prevention strategies, and advance the quality of breast cancer screening. Over the past decades, TBCS has played a pivotal role in setting high standards for breast cancer screening quality control, ensuring that patients have received the best possible diagnosis and treatment.

In our pursuit of excellence, TBCS is committed to providing their members with the latest, cutting-edge knowledge on breast cancer treatment and diagnosis. The society achieves this through the organization of various academic medical conferences, workshops, and symposia, with both domestic and international platforms. These events foster knowledge exchange and faculty development, equipping healthcare providers with the tools they need to deliver superior patient care.

Moreover, TBCS is deeply involved in both basic, translational and clinical research on breast diseases. Their research initiatives aim to contribute to the global body of knowledge, driving innovations that can lead to better patient outcomes. To disseminate the findings and promote scientific discourse, TBCS members regularly publish academic papers that focus on different aspects of breast diseases in addition to clinical guidelines and treatment consensus across broad aspects.

Members of TBCS come from a diverse group of healthcare professionals dedicated to the field of breast oncology. Currently, 70% of their members are surgeons, 20% are medical oncologists, and 10% are radiologists, alongside other healthcare experts who contribute to the multidisciplinary approach required for comprehensive breast cancer care.

The tasks of the Society are as follows:

  • To hold academic conferences and related seminars concerning breast medicine.
  • To promote domestic and international academic exchanges related to breast medicine.
  • To strengthen clinical or basic research related to breast medicine.
  • To improve the medical standards related to breast diseases within Taiwan.

TBCS employs a multi-faceted approach to facilitate research and the exchange of innovative surgical techniques, ensuring that all members are in line with the latest global developments and are enhanced in their clinical practice. Here are the key strategies:

Organizing academic conferences and workshops: TBCS regularly host academic conferences, seminars, and specialized workshops both domestically and internationally, inviting renowned experts to share the latest research findings and innovative techniques. These events provide members with opportunities to engage with peers worldwide, learn about cutting-edge surgical techniques, and discuss advanced treatment methods.

International collaboration and experience sharing: TBCS actively seeks collaborations with international organizations related to breast cancer management, including participation in joint research projects and international clinical trials. These collaborations facilitate the sharing of research outcomes and enable Taiwanese healthcare professionals to be involved in the development and application of leading-edge technologies.

Training and education: We offer specialized training programs for surgeons, including lab-based training, simulation exercises, and observational opportunities. These programs are designed to enhance surgeons’ practical skills in new technologies, ensuring that they can effectively apply these techniques in clinical settings.

Funding research and innovation: TBCS has established research grant programs to encourage members to conduct innovative research, particularly in new surgical techniques and breast cancer treatment methods. We also provide platforms for researchers to present their findings, promoting the clinical application of these innovative technologies.

Online learning and resource sharing: TBCS has developed an online learning platform and resource warehouse, allowing members to access the latest surgical techniques and research findings anytime, anywhere. We regularly update these resources to ensure they are recently updated and clinically practical.

Through these initiatives, TBCS is committed to promoting the exchange the ideas and fruits of research and innovative surgical techniques, thereby enhancing the overall quality of breast cancer treatment and improving patient outcomes.
