Membership Renewal Timeline
Membership renewals open on August 31st, 2026. In order to be eligible for discounted SSO 2027 Annual Meeting registration, you must renew your membership prior to registering.
Membership Dues Cycle: Membership dues are assessed on an annual accrual cycle, beginning January 1 and ending December 31 each year.
Membership Renewal Opens: August 31, 2026
Membership Termination Date: January 4, 2027

Active Membership
Qualifications: Licensed, US-based physicians involved in surgical oncology patient care or who have a major professional interest and commitment to surgical oncology or related fields are eligible for Active membership.
Dues Rate: $595
Required Application Materials
To complete your application, please provide the following:
- Current Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- National Provider Identifier (NPI) Number. (Required for Open Evidence access and CME credit reporting to the American Board of Surgery.)
Completion of all required application sections, including:
- Education
- Training
- Demographic information
Active International Membership
Qualifications: International medical graduates practicing outside the US and involved in surgical oncology patient care, or who have a major professional interest and commitment to surgical oncology or related fields, are eligible for Active International membership.
Dues Rate:
- High-Income Countries – $345*
- Middle-Income and Low-Income Countries – $207*
(Reduced dues rate based on World Bank Classification)

Advanced Practice Provider and Associate Membership
Qualifications: Advanced Practice Provider and Associate Membership is open to any non-physician health care provider or scientist involved in surgical oncology patient care or who has a major professional interest and commitment to surgical oncology or related fields.
Dues Rate: $100
(Reduced dues rate based on World Bank Classification)
Required Application Materials

Candidate Membership (Fellow-in-Training)
Qualifications: Candidate Membership is open to surgical trainees in an accredited fellowship training program.
Dues Rate: $150

Post-Fellowship Candidate Membership
Qualifications: Graduates of fellowship training programs shall be transferred from candidate to post-fellowship candidate membership for a period of up to 2 (two) years upon successful completion of their program.
Dues Rate: $275
*SSO Candidate Members will be automatically moved to this category at the time of graduation from the Fellowship program.
Resident Membership
Qualifications: Surgical residents in good standing in a residency program approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or accredited by an appropriate oversight body are eligible for Resident Membership.
Dues Rate: $60

Medical Student Membership
Qualifications: Medical students in good standing enrolled in an accredited medical school program are eligible for Medical Student Membership.

International Student Membership
Qualifications: International Student Membership in The Society is limited to physicians in training who meet one of the following requirements:
- Must be an international surgical resident or fellow in a surgical residency or fellowship program approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, or accredited by an appropriate oversight body; or
- Must be an international student enrolled in an accredited medical school at a college or university.
- If elected, the International Student Member will remain a International Student Member through completion of surgical training or fellowship, then be required to apply for an Active International Membership.
Dues Rate: No Cost

Emeritus Membership
Qualifications: Emeritus Membership is only open to Active and Active International Members who are retired from active practice.
Dues Rate: $75
SSO Active and Active International Members can be moved to this category at the time of retirement upon request.
