SSO Advanced Practice Providers

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) membership category within the Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO) recognizes the vital contributions of APPs to the multidisciplinary care of surgical oncology patients. This Associate Membership is open to certified Physician Assistants/Associates (PA-C) and Nurse Practitioners (ARNP, DNP) who are actively involved in surgical oncology care or demonstrate a strong professional interest and commitment to surgical oncology and related fields.

APPs are healthcare professionals with specialized education, training, and are certified to provide comprehensive patient care across the healthcare spectrum. They collaborate with surgeons and other healthcare professionals to provide a wide spectrum of services, including patient evaluation, diagnostic workups, treatment planning, surgical and procedural care, patient surveillance, as well as long-term survivorship planning. APPs are also involved in cancer screening, patient education, research, and more.

APPs are integral to delivering high quality, patient centered, cost effective care. As versatile and clinically skilled providers, they enhance the capacity of surgical teams and contribute meaningfully across all phases of cancer management. Their unique ability to collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams makes them invaluable partners in advancing surgical oncology care.

The purpose of the APP membership is to promote collaborative, multidisciplinary care within Surgical Oncology, aiding in the advancement of science and education with a continued commitment to quality, accessibility and cost-effectiveness of patient healthcare worldwide.
