European Society of Surgical Oncology

Founded in 1981, the European Society of Surgical Oncology (ESSO) supports its members in advancing the science and practice of surgical oncology for the benefit of cancer patients. The Society aims to achieve this through a range of activities related to education, research, leadership in multidisciplinary care, field of education, homogenization of skills, quality healthcare and ultimately qualification. 

ESSO is dedicated to strengthening relationships with national societies and patient advocacy groups and using social, economic and legislative instruments to promote optimal surgical cancer care to cancer patients. The Society is committed to raising the profile and setting the highest standards of cancer surgery, to enhance and improve comprehensively the quality of cancer care. ESSO influences both cancer service developments working within nations and across Europe and healthcare policy priorities.

The Society’s Annual Meeting will take place from October 2 to October 4 in Antwerp, Belgium.

Leaders from ESSO and SSO met in Atlanta during SSO2024.
