Shishir K. Maithel, MD, FACS, FSSO, Appointed Editor-In-Chief of Surgical Oncology Insight
The Society of Surgical Oncology is excited to announce that Shishir K. Maithel, MD, FACS, FSSO, has been named Editor-in-Chief of Surgical Oncology Insight. His vision for the open access journal is to highlight and emphasize the multi-disciplinary approach to cancer care and global practices of our colleagues all around the world. Over the past decade, Dr. Maithel has served as the National Principal Investigator (PI) or directly mentored the PI of ten multi-institutional research collaborations. The past seven years, he has served as Chair of the ECOG-ACRIN (EA) GI Surgery Working Group, current Co-Chair of the EA Surgery Committee, and a contributing member of the NCI Hepatobiliary Task Force. Dr. Maithel has established himself as a surgical oncology leader in the national and international oncology prospective clinical trials research network, which includes medical and radiation oncologists. He is the Study Chair of an NCTN NCI-funded Randomized Controlled Phase II/III trial on the management of incidental gallbladder cancer (EA2197). Dr. Maithel also serves as Co-Chair of three other NCI-funded randomized trials (EA2192, EA7201, EA2222). It is in these roles that he has served as a mentor for many other surgical oncologists as they rise to lead clinical trials in the NCTN.
